a set of five dishes in Seto type ware with Daikon (radish) design; there are five dishes as is the custom in Japan representing the five senses
diameter: 21.5 cm
note: one may wonder why Rosanjin elected to embelish dishes with a humble Daikon (radish) it maybe with his interest in food that the words of farmer/philosopher Masanobu Fukuoka (1913-2008) would have not been lost on Rosanjin “if you understand the heart of one daikon, you understand all. You see that religion and philosophy and science are all one”; a daikon is seen as part of the earth, a seed of the earth
Often referred to simply as Rosanjin (1883-1952), his artistic name, Rosanjin is world renowned as a calligrapher, ceramicist, engraver, painter, lacquer artist, and restaurateur. One of the great modern artist potters whom made functional wares for restaurants including his own restaurant in Tokyo. He mastered most of the styles of Japanese pottery and adapting them into modern designs.
