Chiang Saen city along the Mekong river northern Thailand was established in 1329 and became an important Buddhist center producing from the 14th century a style of Buddha images with Indian Pala influence as seen from the distinct facial and body features and in the seated lotus position not found in other other early schools of Thai Buddha images. Together with Sukhothai images of the same era they are considered the finest of Thai Buddhist art and the the most collectible.
This image within the classical Chiang Saen style we place as late 15th century.
