a ceramic beaker by Otakagi Rengetsu sometimes referred to by name Lotus Moon; was a Buddhist nun, poet, calligrapher and potter. She lived in the late Edo to early Meiji period (early to late 19th century). Leading a tragic and colourful life much has been written about her … the book titled Black Robe White Mist published by the National Gallery of Australia on the occasion of an exhibition with the same title in 2007 is a recommended introduction to Rengetsu life and works.
