acceptance of imperfection
An early Edo period tea jar (cha tsubo) from Tamba one of the ancient kiln sites of Japan. The distorted shape is the result of the soft clay giving way during the firing .. a number of these irregular jars have survived suggesting their acceptance an popularity.
This jar is particularly special with the thick rivulets of glaze running down the sides.
