The four characters on the scroll read :
Wa __ harmony; welcome others and your time in harmony
Kei __ sincerity; to view others with respect regardless of position
Sei __ purity of the heart
Seki __ to be alive only in this moment
Yamada Mumon (1900-1988) was one of the most important 20th century Zen teachers and headed up a number of prominent Zen temples.
The scroll ink on paper measures 37cm x 145cm framed in patterned blue silk extended with beige finished with black lacquer rollers. It is in perfect condition.
