Classic tea bowl from Kalong Wang Nua kilns, Northern Thailand; 15th century

ceramic bowl from Northern Thailand, Wang Nua kilns of the Kalong ceramic family, 15th century .. this bowl is interesting as its size falls into the classic Chinese tea bowls of the same period and earlier. Whereas there are no records of a tea culture in Thailand at that time it can be assumed that this bowl was made by a Chinese potter.. in fact confirming the legends of their presence in Thailand. The tea bowl may not look too much but as for all tea bowls it is the feel in the hands that makes the bowl with the distinct coiling as seen .. these bowls never made their way to Japan because of trade restrictions .. had they I dare say they would have been in demand for the Tea Ceremonies and may have found more favor than the Korean bowls of the same era being of similar glaze colors
