Hayashi Shotaro
a robust flower vase with a thick smooth Shino glaze overlaying a red (aka) iron rich sediment which oozes through the surface leaving bluish tones … the vase with a slightly bellowed foot and visible potting coils to the body recalls the early vase shapes favoured by the Tea masters from the late 16th century .

Hayashi Shotaro (b.1947) is closely associated with the revival of traditionally inspired ceramics from the Mino area of central Japan producing Oribe and Shino glazed wares.
Shotaro established his own kiln in 1974 and is today considered the leading artist in contemporary Mino ceramics being a ‘designated important intangible cultural property of Gifu prefecture’ .
