Vishnu Angkor Wat period, 12th century;

sandstone
height: 61 cm (71 cm incl. stand)

This majestic figure from the Angkor Wat period is likely to represent Vishnu as identified by the remaining parts of the four arms associated with Vishnu holding his attributes representing the fundamental elements of the earth in his role as the Preservor.

The statue is characteristic of the Angkor Wat stye with the shoulders wide and straight and the costume with central fish tail folds and stylised pocket folds to the left side.

The overlapping fold at the waist suggests an early 12th century figure as seen in earlier statutory.
