Indonesia, kris handle, 17th century

THB 0.00

Indonesian Kris handle, 17th century

Ebony wood
height: 10.5 cm (17 cm with stand)

a holy man

A figure of a priest or holy man (pedanda) holding a manuscript in the left hand with a walking cane held in the right hand. Both ears adorned with lotuses. It is likely the image was a reflection of the owner of the kris as such carvings with attention to detail and spirit of the subject are rare attesting to its early age 17th century.

Being a finely carved figure with a lustrous patina mounted on a black lacquer stand provides a true scholars object imbued with age and wisdom to reflect on.
